NATIVE AMERICAN SPRING FESTIVAL
The annual Native American Spring Festival held as COCC begins Saturday April 11,  at 11:00 am and runs till 4:00 pm. There will be Native Hawaiian dancers, Aztec dancers and Warm Springs dancers performing to traditional music and drums. Thanks to the generous donation from the Warm Springs Tribal Council we will be cooking and serving 200 pounds of salmon and fry bread to feed the attendees. There is no charge for the food or admission. There will be vendors present that will be selling Native American arts and crafts in the lobby. This should be a great event that involves the Native peoples with the general population to get to know one another in a positive setting. The film presentation of why save a language will be aired at this event. We’ll save you a seat in the circle!

FIELD TRIPS
Glass Buttes aboriginal skills instruction in beginning flintknapping using a variety of techniques and where to quarry your obsidian and proper handling. New event to happen every March and a later Spring offering for those preferring warmer weather.

The Klamath River Canyon trip is designed to showcase the Shasta ancestral lands and villages that are still present in the canyon area. This is a tour of villages, forage locations and viewing of a wild and scenic river that is in conflict with the Hydroelectric dams due to the end of their license and a desire by many groups and tribes to return the river to a salmon bearing and productive river. Fishing is available on this field trip which is may be overnight.

SPEAKERS
Agnes Baker Pilgrim speaker on Native ways and thoughts of mother earth and a life philosophy for us all to learn how to get along in a spiritual and meaningful manner.

Series of speakers to be offered in May are to be over 3 days of presentations from different tribes concerning the current issues that affect Indian Country. The First Nations Perspectives will be designed to provide candid views of hot topics in Indian Country that affect us all. Topics will vary among issues to include the saving of a salmon species and reviving a river to be once again productive through restoration. Casino disputes in Indian Country. The land and the cultural value of the fish are topics that will be covered to provide a real time insight on issues in conflict within the Native Community.

NATIVE AMERICAN CLUB
Club based projects to include the wood cutting and delivery to the elderly in Warm Springs to help the elders stay warm in the winter and service projects at the homeless shelter to feed the homeless were also done by club members. New ideas for community projects are welcome.
